Bay Keeper
Founded in 1989, Baykeeper works to reverse the environmental degradation
of the past and promote new strategies and policies to protect the water
quality of the San Francisco Bay. For nearly two decades, Baykeeper and its
Deltakeeper project have been the premiere watchdog of the water quality of

Alameda warning buoys for sunken Radar Tower
The basic mantra on the three buoys is
NEVER Pass Close on the Upwind side of any of them - at any time. If
you do you are over the obstruction.
For windsurfers that is ~ 2+ board lengths and a bit more for the
radar tower. For kiters ~ 1/2 of a line set The floats have been set
with enough scope to allow for a big south swell on a high tide. The
one at the Radar Tower is suspended between the diagonal corner legs
so, except for the lowest tide, is roughly over the tower position.
They are all all-chain so may require a wire brushing once a year to
remove growth and marine life.
Watching the Radar Tower buoy settle in to its rhythm...it may
require a bit more flotation, perhaps a larger float or an
intermediate float on the chain (there is alot of chain).
